The Ranbireshwar Temple is another temple in Jammu that you should not miss on your Jammu travel. It is an important itinerary of the Jammu and Kashmir pilgrim tourism. It is a beautiful ancient temple which is located on the Shalimar Road near the new Secrerariat in Jammu and Kashmir and is the biggest Shiva temple in North India. It was built in the year 1883, by Maharaja Ranabir Singh of the Dogra Dynasty, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The premises of the temple are divided into two halls decorated by images of the gods Ganesha and Kartikeya. The idols of the faithful Nandi Bull is found in the temple. 1.25 lakh bona lingams of the Lord Shiva are placed in the two halls of the temple. The characteristic feature of the temple is the 7.5 feet tall Shiva lingam that is placed in the main sanctum of the temple. The main limgam rises in the center of the temple and is of black marbled stone. The temple also has 12 other lingams carved out of crystal ranging from 15 centimeters to 38 centimeters in height.

One can visit anytime throughout the year. To reach there one can take a flight that connects Jammu with Delhi, Leh and Shrinagar or take a train to Jammu Tawi from Calcutta, Delhi, Bombay, Madras and other main cities in India or can travel by road to Jammu on N.H.no 1A, which is connected by good all-weather roads to all parts of India.
