Kud is a town and a notified area committee in Udhampur District of Jammu and Kashmir. It is located at coordinates 33°05′N 75°17′E / 33.08, 75.28. Kud is a place of extraordinary scenic beauty and is situated at a distance of 103 Kms from Jammu. It is a popular resort and is situated beautifully on the Jammu-Srinagar highway at an average elevation of 1855 metres (6085 feet).It is a part of the Lower Himalayan Range. The river Chenab flows in close proximity, which makes Kud an ideal picnic spot with a refreshing climate that perks up your life and gives it a new meaning.
Kud offers a lot more places for you to explore just by trekking through the beautiful serene place. There are excellent camping sites in the adjoining areas too. The tourism Department has also provided shops for hiring Trekking equipment. These Shops stock local and imported trekking gear. Equipments are available against a security deposit. If you are a foreign national then your passport will be kept as a deposit. Some travel agencies also organize trekking around the area. Kud is famous for its sweet shop that makes hot and fresh patisa that is very popular with the tourists.
According to the 2001 census Kud has a population of 1140. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Kud has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 47%. In Kud, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
One can reach Kud easily from Jammu with the help of buses that are available from Bus stand in Jammu. The tourism Department of Jammu and Kashmir has also proided chartered luxury coaches and buses. Taxis are also available for hiring from a number of Tour/Travel operators from across the city of Jammu. Similar services towards Kud are available from Railway Station also. Fares are pre determined by the Government.
If you are planning to go to Kud then keep in mind the weather conditions there and pack yourselves well with clothing accordingly. On requires some heavy woolens in winters and some light/medium clothing in summers. It also experiences heavy rainfall in the rainy season.
