Patnitop if compared to other tourist destinations and hill stations is also a beautiful and serene place. It is one of the most popular tourist spots of Jammu. Patnitop is 112 kms from Jammu. It is a famous hill resort located on a beautiful plateau. It is at an altitude of 2024 metres and the passing of Jammu-Srinagar Highway across this plateau also makes the place a beautiful one. It has some resemblance to Gulmarg, Kud and Batote due to its lush green meadows and pine trees.
Patnitop overall has bewitching picnic spots a peaceful environment and breathtaking views of the mountains cape of the Chenab basin. In winter Patnitop becomes more alluring due to a white carpet of snow that cover it and its slopes which can be fully utilized to enjoy the sport of skiing. Pony rides along little known trails, camping and walks can be indulged in by those with a less adventurous spirit. The daring can opt for Para gliding and basic skiing. Skiing courses are conducted here form January to February.
One can also take an attractive one-day walk to Shiva Garh which is about 11-km from Patnitop and is at an altitude of almost 3,500 metres. Another place around five kms from Patnitop, the Madhatop on Sanasar Road also provide excellent possibilities for all kind of skiing. Skiing equipments and wooden sledges are also available on hire at both these places,Madhatop and Patnitop. For beginners Instructors are also available. A 6-hole golf course in Sansar is also being expanded to 9-holes course currently.
There are three, gushing, ice-cold freshwater springs in the area, which are said to have medicinal properties. The complete tourist circuit covers Jammu-Katra-Vaishno Deviji, Kud-Sanasar, Patnitop-Gourikund, Sudmahadev, Mantali, extending upto Latti-Dhuna. Sudh Mahadev is another sacred spot situated close to Patnitop. At Patnitop the best time for a visit are summer, during May-June, and autumn, September-October. But if you want to enjoy some snowboard joys then best time for you is December to March.
Reaching Patnitop by Road:-
Buses and taxis are available from Jammu/Katra/Udhampur. By a taxi it takes about 3 and a half hours to reach Patnitop and bus takes about 5 hours.

There are a large number of huts and Tourists Bungalows, all managed by J&KTDC, having facilities of Drawing room/Dining room and fully equipped kitchen in all huts and LPG facility.
