As we told you in the last post that India has the second largest base of wildlife in the world. India is well known for its wildlife sanctuaries and National Parks. Today I will list out some famous wildlife sanctuaries of India. There are around 441 Wildlife Sanctuaries in India. So it will not be possible to list out all 441 sanctuaries.
The following is the list:
- Srisailam Wildlife Sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh with an area of 506.94 Km Sq.
- Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh started in 1978 with an area of 20Km sq
- Nagarjunasagar Wildlife Sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh started in 1978 with an area of 3568Km sq.
- Sasangir Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat started in 1965 with an area of 1153.42Km sq.
- Wild Ass Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat started in 1973 with an area of 4953.7Km sq.
- Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary in Haryana started in 1989 with an area of 1.43Km sq.
- Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala started in 1976 with an area of 77Km sq.
- Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala started in 1950 with an area of 472Km sq
- Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala started in 1973 with an area of 344.44Km sq.
- Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala started in 1984 with an area of 55Km sq.
- Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala started in 1958 with an area of 128Km sq.
- Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala started in 1983 with an area of 55Km sq.
- Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala started in 1973 with an area of 285Km sq.
- Thattekad Bird Sanctuary in Kerala started in 1981 with an area of 1258.37Km sq.
- B R Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka in 1987 with an area of 539.52Km sq.
- Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka with an area of 834.16km sq.
- Ranganathittu Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka started in 1984 with an area of 119Km sq.
- Karera Wildlife Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh started in 1981 with an area of 202.21Km sq.
- Sanjay Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary in Maharashtra started in 1983 with an area of 86.96Km sq.
- Chilka Lake Bird Santuary in Orissa started in 1987 with an area of 15.53Km sq.
- Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary in Orissa started in 1985 with an area of 70Km sq.
- Sambhar Wildlife Sanctuary in Rajasthan
- Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamilnadu started in 1978 with an area of 321.55Km sq.
- Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh started in 1986 with an area of 20.73Km sq.
- Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh started in 1972 with an area of 227.12Km sq.
- National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh started in 1992 with an area of 635Km sq.
- Assan Barrage Bird Sanctuary in Uttarakhand
- Satkosia Basipalli Wildlife Sanctuary in West Bengal
All the above Wildlife Sanctuaries are worth visiting. In the next post I will tell you about the different National Parks one by one and will also tell you about the ways by which you can plan your holiday and visit these Wildlife Sanctuaries.
